THE BAND

Throttle

We are Throttle a heavy metal band from Wigan, influenced by bands such as Metallica, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Motorhead and Guns ‘n’ Roses. Our songs range from good chunky metal riffs with both slow and fast tempo’s to more raw stuff based around rock and blues scales. We’ve also done a couple of epic type songs with complicated song structures.

ORIGINAL LINEUP

The band dates back to 2002 when School mates Mike Winrow (guitarist/vocalist) and Martyn Watts (drummer) decided to kick things off and start a bad ass Metal band. During the starting stages the band went through various lineup changes. Finally in 2003 Throttle reached a winning combination with Mike Winrow (Vocalist/Guitarist), Martyn Watts (Drums), Adam Wardle (Lead Guiarist) and Ben Warurton (Bassist/Backing Vocals).

Mike and Martyn met Adam when they all played Rugby for the same team and it was at this time that Mike began jamming with Adam, months later Adam left his current band and joined Throttle as lead guitarist. Mike and Martyn were mates with Ben at school so when he left his band he was also recruited.

Since then we have played over 80 gigs Ranging from shakey festival stages to headlining packed out venues. We recorded our first demo after our first gig with the Wigan music collective.

Despite all our progress, arguments and disagreements grew between the band, particularly those disagreements concerning future plans and musical directions of the band. The end resulted in the band parting with two of its members. This news came as a shock to many of the Throttle fans, and also all the members of the band. The original lineup played their last gig at the Farmers Arms in Bolton on the 18th Febuary 2006. Once the gig was complete the band said fairwell to Adam and Ben and give them all the luck for the future.

NEW LINEUP

Once Adam and Ben left the band and Mike and Martyn were left to rebuild Throttle. And rebuild they did. Sifting through the ashes what once was Throttle came the rise of a new fresh start. The first member to be added to the Throttle family was rythme guitarist turned bass player, Mark Teasdale. A good personnal friend and fan of the band. His abiliteis were well known to Mike and Martyn due to Mark auditioning for Throttle in September 2005 when Ben (Bassist) left the band. He nearly joined Throttle, but due to Ben wishing to rejoin his Metal brothers Mark's place in Throttle was lost until now. Ironically Mark was recriuted the night of the news of the split. Martyn went to his house straight after rehersals for a beer or two and they started talking. Mark was still interested in joining Throttle but was a little weiry due to him in the process of forming his own band Egodeath. After a long discussion and a few beers they agreed Throttle was the way forward. Now they had a bass player all what was left was to find a worthy lead guitarist to complete the band.

This process was long and pain staking due to Throttle only being able to recruit only the one. The competition was fierce and it was a hard descision to make but at the end we had only one person in mind. He was the guitairst which caught the eyes of Throttle within the space of 5 minutes of his audition. His name was Chris Jones and despite being the youngest auditionee his outstanding performance rightfully earned his place in the Throttle family as the new lead guitarist. Now the lineup has been completed the start of Throttle domination begins.

Once the new members were settled in and well gigged, throttle set about recording their very first full length album. Throttle's new lineup helped put touches to the old songs and also set about writing new material, lead by new songwriter, Mark Teasdale. With help from Digi-wave producer Mark Hampson, the album contained 5 songs from the original lineup (written mainly by Mike), 3 brand new songs (written mainly by Mark) and 2 songs patched up from old and new material, Guillotine and Bitch (now renaimed churchill the great) From the original demo. Recorded in October 2006, entitled "forged in metal" the album was released in March 2007 and brought with it much of Throttles forthcoming success.

Since then Throttle have been gigging more frantically than ever before, promoting the new album. Playing over 100 gigs around Wigan, Bolton, Manchester, Nottingham, Widnes, Mansfeild, Warrington and many more. We have supported DIAMOND HEAD twice and made our first appearances at the Newton Music Festival (Headlined by none other than Dr Feelgood) and the Manchester in the city festival, aswell as playing with many great, up and coming metal bands such as Speed Theory, Remain (Canada), Strain and Fury UK. To add to this we have also had airplay several times on Chorley FM aswel as a live interveiw and an unplugged performance of in your Footsteps. We also had an interview and an awesome live review with the "Angel of Metal", who in the past has been known for interviewing top bands such as SAXON. However more recently one of our proudest acheivements has been receiving a top review of our album ("Forged in Metal") by American magazine Hard Rock Haven, who gave the record 8.5/10 describing it "With excellent vocals, hard-edged retro/new-metal guitar riffs and a familiar vibe, the record grabs the listener by the throat, demanding attention." and saying "metal was born in England and these guys are doing a great job representing new metal while sustaining some of the best attributes of classic metal."

So as you can see Throttle are turning alot of Heads and our hard work is begginning to pay off and we are looking to gain new territory on the gigging front so look out, we may be coming to a town near you!
